Smart Assistive Technology for the Blind
Due to the challenges faced by the blind in navigating the internet and reading texts — and the lack of privacy in existing assistive devices — we built a solution that serves blind individuals, rehabilitation centers, and educational institutions.
The Problem
Blind and visually impaired individuals face significant challenges when navigating the internet and reading digital or printed text. Existing assistive devices often lack privacy, are expensive, bulky, or rely on audio output that limits independence and discretion.
The Solution
BrillAccess is an affordable, portable, and privacy-focused assistive device that enables blind users to access digital and physical text seamlessly in Arabic. The system converts text into Braille output via Bluetooth, offering a discreet and user-controlled experience.
How It Works
The solution consists of two integrated components. A smart device allows users to browse Arabic web content and receive text converted into Braille wirelessly. Smart glasses equipped with a camera detect and analyze surrounding text, convert it into Braille, and optionally read it aloud.
Target Audience
- Blind and visually impaired individuals
- Rehabilitation and support centers
- Educational institutions serving visually impaired students
Why It Matters
By combining privacy, accessibility, and affordability, BrillAccess empowers blind users with greater independence in education, communication, and daily life.
Vision
To become a leading assistive technology platform that improves digital accessibility for the blind and visually impaired across the Arab world and beyond.
